In the midst of my own downfalls…

I’m behind on my Bible reading.

I have been for some time now and I’m having a hard time getting back in the groove.

Surely I’m not the only one who does this?

But I”m not here today to talk about my downfalls … but about the Lord’s provisions in the midst of my downfalls!

You see, last night I began praying about something specific.  As I was getting ready for bed I asked God if He wanted me to pursue this new thing in my life.  I didn’t want to make a decision based on my own fleshly desires but wanted to walk in the Lord’s perfect will for my life.

Lord, is this something you want me to pursue?  I don’t want to make a decision before I hear from you.  I know I like the idea of this new thing but what would you like me to do?  Because even though I like this idea, it also scares me to death.  Not only is it something new and different but it would be a new location and new faces…and I’m comfortable right where I am.  What would You have me to do?  Do I pursue this new thing?

So I crawled in bed and even though it was late, I was bound and determined to get in at least one chapter before I went to sleep.  I clicked on my Bible Reading Plan and backed up to where I am supposed to be and this is what I read…

The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. “I will make you into a great nation,  and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” – Genesis 12:1-3

Can I just tell you that I cried…

I know that I’m not saying exactly what I’m praying about… I will in time…but just know this…

…even when we are behind or lacking, God is enough and still right on time!

The Joyful Junkers: All things new

I love taking something old and useless and making it beautiful and useful again!

Here is one of my recent projects…I wish I had a picture of my “before” so that you could see the difference but just imagine this piece where the seller almost couldn’t give it away…but I seen the potential!

This chair is amazing!  I call it a Low Rider Comfort chair.  I simply painted the old wood turquoise (including the strip of material on the front of the seat) and then recovered the cushion with an old hand stitched quilt top.

Tonight I have another project (or 2 or 3 or…well, if you know me there is no telling) in mind…so stay tuned!

Now, you know I can’t just write a post about bringing life to old, dead things without at least a few words about the powerful LIFE given to us by Jesus Christ!

So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!2 Corinthians 5:16-17

Friend, just like this old chair just thrown on another porch …we serve a God of restoration, a God of healing, and a God that is living!

Christ sees life in you…Christ sees potential in you…Christ sees His masterpiece!

Confession: I AM NOT ENOUGH {but God is}

Sometimes I feel that I should do more…I should have more of the right words…I should be able to fix things and make others feel better.

After all, I am the pastor’s wife, right?

One night this week I was blessed with the opportunity to minister to several different lades who were all having a really rough week.  I use the word ‘minister’ very lightly because the whole time in my mind I was thinking, “you don’t even have the words to say…you may be quoting a few scriptures to them right now but they don’t want to hear that right now, they KNOW these things…they are simply having a rough week/season/life!  As their leadership, how are you going to fix this?”

And then the Lord spoke these words into my spirit…

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”Matthew 11:28-29

Friends, if we want to be like Jesus, if we want to walk and talk like Jesus, if we want to show Jesus, sometimes we must simply provide a shelter from the storms.  This is how we be His hands and His feet…by wrapping our arms around our sisters in Christ and letting them cry.  No, I can’t fix the situation.

I may not even have the correct “pastor’s wife” words…but I do know a God who heals delivers, restores, strengthens, and sets free!  And at times, He chooses me to wrap my arms around a loved one and remind them of these truths.

When you sometimes feel like you aren’t doing enough, simply listen and let them cry

because when God is in involved, HE IS ENOUGH.

Thy Word is…simply something to mark off my to-do list???

My post yesterday was about getting in and seeking God with all of our hearts.

At the beginning of this year, God impressed on my heart that I needed to read the Bible all the way through in 2015.

This is something I really never expected to do in my lifetime.  I know…this is crazy…why wouldn’t I?

Why wouldn’t any and all Christians not only expect to, but WANT to read God’s Word.

After all, how do we learn who He is without doing so?

So, on New’s Year’s Eve, I began a journey.  I had a desire to read the Bible in all of its Goodness before the year was over.  But something happened…

I was hooked!

I was so intrigued by what I was not only reading, but learning.  I couldn’t put it down.  I was reading for hours at a time…staying up late…reading when I used to be scrolling down Facebook…

Kind of crazy, huh?  Or is it?

“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. – Joshua 1:8

The Bible was meant to not only be read, but to be studied.  Men lost their lives so that we could know the things of God that are intended for us.

So I began my journey and was infatuated with the things I was reading.  Some things were brand new to me, others made so much more sense than before…and also, reading through the Old Testament will cause anybody to repent daily! :)

I just kept getting more and more ahead in my schedule until I finished the entire Bible…

in 2 months…

I do not mention this to toot my own horn but to give God the glory.  I didn’t just read to read but I was learning like crazy and growing closer to God like never before!

Now, let’s fast forward to June…I could have read it again since March but have I?  Nope!  I’m not even 1/2 way through again…I’m probably not even a quarter of the way through again.

A big part of me wanted to dig right back in and begin again but I will be completely honest…  Part of me thought, ‘well, I can mark reading the Bible all the way through off my list of Christian duties…now what?’

Well you know how God is…He kind of likes to get our attention and if it takes a big bald headed man of God to do that, then so be it!

A good friend of ours is a Bible reading, Bible studying machine and he loves to encourage others to dive right in there with him.  Well, I seen him yesterday…and he scared me. (not really but he did cause me to want to jump right back in like I was before) :)

So here we are in June 2015…and I begin again.

Where will it take me this time?….only time will tell

Thy word…is a lamp unto my feet…and a light unto my path…

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”Psalm 119:105

“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.”Romans 15:4

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”Hebrews 4:12

I could go on and on with why scripture is important for us…

But as for today, I begin in Genesis chapter 1.

If you are interested in joining me, here is the Chronological plan that I will be following.

Chronological means ‘in the order the events took place’.

From Rescue to Restoration

Jesus Christ is more about the Restoration than the Rescue!

Let’s ponder over parts of Jeremiah 33 for just a moment.

The Promise of Restoration

‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’

First of all, we serve a very personable God!

“{Insert your name here}, call me and I will answer you…I’ve got some really great things to tell you…I’m just waiting for you to initiate the call!”

‘For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says about the houses in this city and the royal palaces of Judah that have been torn down to be used against the siege ramps and the sword in the fight with the Babylonians: ‘They will be filled with the dead bodies of the people I will slay in my anger and wrath. I will hide my face from this city because of all its wickedness’

Destruction is evident…hard times are a given…but when we serve the King of ALL Kings, RESTORATION is the victor!

But we must first weather the storm before we can experience the rainbow.

‘Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security. I will bring Judah and Israel back from captivity and will rebuild them as they were before. I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against me. Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.’

Oh yes, we serve a God who rescues…praise the Lord for that! However, if we never step into His restoration, we are going to head right back into Rescue Mode without experiencing the fullness of the blessings of God in our lives!

“Give thanks to the LORD Almighty, for the LORD is good; His love endures forever…For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were before,’ says the LORD.”

The days are coming,’ declares the LORD, ‘when I will fulfill the good promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah…For I will restore their fortunes and have compassion on them.

Someone reading this needs rescued…Let Christ be your Hero, and then let Him be your Healer and Restorer!
