Let’s party like it’s 1999!

Guess what today is?

Y’all, I am 33 years old and I still love my birthday!

As a Christian, I should love life!

Jesus said, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly!

No, this doesn’t mean that my life is all hunky-dory or sunshine and roses but it does mean that I AM BLESSED and GOD IS GOOD!

So, how will you help me celebrate today?

*Buy yourself that new purse you’ve been wanting!

* Splurge on lunch today!

* Eat Cake!

*Wear a tiara!

Go ahead, I give you permission.

It’s my birthday, let’s celebrate!

Do you accept your Mission?

Your #Mission is not to please people!

Your mission is not to tiptoe around other momma’s and daddy’s (men and women) trying to be accepted!

Your mission is not to fit in!

Your mission is not to carry your feelings on your shoulders!

Your MISSION is #Love!

Your Mission is #Truth!

Your Mission is to ‘proclaim good tidings to the meek’…’bind up the broken hearted’…’proclaim liberty to the captives’…and ‘free those that are bound’!

Your Mission is to be a #PeculiarPeople!

Your Mission is to #BeYeHoly!

Your Mission is to to #Represent Jesus!

Your Mission is to #SpeakLife!

Your Mission is to be the hands and feet of Jesus!

Do you?

You need Jesus! – I need Jesus! – We ALL need Jesus!

You need to be skinnier.

You need to be healthier.

You need to have blond hair.

You need to have brown hair.

You need to show more cleavage.

You need to fit in.

You need to go looking for love.

You need to not be so feminine.

You need to be more independent.

You need to ‘experiment’ before you settle down.

No, I’m sorry…YOU NEED JESUS…and He is enough!

Friends, have you ever heard the phrase “Lying by Omission”?  I’m sure you’ve heard it…I’m sure you’ve used it.

Lying by Omission: lying by either omitting certain facts or by failing to correct a misconception.
…failing to correct a misconception…

All over the television, all over social media, all over everywhere, we are being fed these misconceptions.

Our sons are being taught to think they have a choice on whether they want to be a man or a women!

Our daughters are being taught to ‘flaunt what they’ve got’ and ‘life just isn’t worth it’!

Our husbands are being led to believe that this ‘other woman’ has more of an interest in him than his wife does and it’s OK to have an ‘innocent’ relationship with her!

Why do they think this?  After all, we’ve never told them these things, right!?!

No, we haven’t but the world has…..and we are deceiving them by the simple act of omission!

We have got to speak up and speak out!  I’m not saying you have to go on an all out ‘rant’ on Facebook and bash those who don’t believe the way you do…as a matter of fact, I don’t agree with that in the least…but I do believe we need to be speaking LIFE into our children and our spouses!

Teach your sons to put on the full armor of God so that they can withstand the schemes of the enemy and stand their ground! Ephesians 6:10-20

Teach your daughters to respect their bodies and to not throw their pearls to the pigs! Matthew 7:6
Teach them that they are loved and cherished by an Almighty Father!  Teach them that they were created by God, loved by God, important to God, WANTED by God!  Times may be hard but they will not be overtaken…they may be persecuted but not destroyed!  2 Corinthians 4:7-9

SHOW your husbands that you love them and respect them and appreciate them!  Let your actions prove to him that you adore and want him, that he is important to you!  Proverbs 31:10-31

We hold a power within us and we don’t even realize it!  Yes, the power of our tongue can bring death but it can also bring forth life!

“The tongue has the power of life and death…”Proverbs 18:21

As Christians, it is not enough for us to abstain from telling lies or spreading gossip but we must also refuse to omit the truth in order to absolutely obliterate the device of the enemy!

Ooh….I’m so Fancy: And I like cake!

I’m going to let you in on a little secret.

I don’t cook much…unless I’m trying out  a new Pinterest recipe.

Oh, I’ve had a few Pinterest fails but hey, at least I tried right?

However, I DO bake from time to time and last Sunday as I was napping (I highly recommend this on your day of rest…Just sayin’)…anyway, as I was napping I had a dream…

about CAKE!

I’m not sure if any of you are familiar with the Original Funfetti Icing or not with the little chewy bits of heavenly goodness in it…but they discontinued it.

Y’all this was a sad day for me.

They discontinued it a couple of years ago and I have literally craved it…and then I dream about it.  :)

Good news though!  They announced a few weeks ago that their Original Funfetti Icing is making a come back!

Praise the Lord!

But…yes their is a but….it isn’t available until late July or early August.  So my next favorite?

Fancy Banana Nut Cake

Y’all, this cake is not banana nut bread.  Nope, it doesn’t even have real bananas in it!  I often bake and sell these for fundraisers at our church or ladies functions….but today, I’m going to share my secret recipe.

Oh, not really!  It’s not a secret…it’s probably on the back of a pudding box somewhere!  :)  This cake is SO SO SO simple and yummy and Fancy looking!  Here goes!

Fancy Banana Nut Cake

1 box of yellow cake mix (mix as directed on box)

1 large box of instant banana pudding mix (dry)

A couple handfuls of chopped pecans (plus some to sprinkle on top when you are finished)

1 container of cream cheese frosting (I whip mine in the mixer to make it fluffier)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Combine together cake mix as described on box.

Add in dry pudding mix and your chopped pecans.

Pour in well greased pan.  (I prefer mine in mini cakes or muffins.)

Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. (Also a preference because I like mine well done) :)

Once cooled, pipe a little frosting on top and sprinkle on some more pecans!

And here you go! Simple FANCY, huh?

Is it Friday already?

I’m here and I’m still a kickin’!

I know, I only missed yesterday in my blog posting and there is no “rule” that says I have to write daily…but I have to be very intentional about not beating myself up over missing a day.

My week has been filled with sick kiddos, long sleepless nights, fever, strep throat, and Emergency Room visits with my father in law.  No, this is not an ideal week but my family is still alive and happy!

(This was my view at around 4 am on Wednesday morning..no zoom.  Oh Lord help her crazy little feet…)

I am surrounded with such sweet, Jesus loving kids that it makes my heart smile.  Yesterday, Allison was starting to feel a little better so she road with her daddy down the road to get some hay.  While they were gone she said she started feeling bad so she went and layed down in the truck while he was talking.  I said, “Sissy, how come you didn’t tell Daddy you were sick and needed to come home?”  She replied, “They were talking about the Lord… so I didn’t want to interrupt them.”

Y’all, if this doesn’t melt your heart I don’t know what will.

She was so sick too…when he carried her in, her temperature was 102.5.

This is a true act of selflessness.  A seven year old girl, achy and feverish, but still not going to interrupt a conversation about the Lord.

Thank you Lord for my sweet, sweet babies…

My post today may not be all “spiritual” or even have a scripture in it…but this is OK.  To be completely honest, none of my week has been real spiritual or had much scripture in it.  I’ve read my chapters for my Bible Reading Plan but other than that, not much more than prayers of healing over my babies and father in law.

And some days, this is OK too.

Transparency: Is the church truly ready for it?

What does that word really mean? And does the church world REALLY want that? Are the Christians truly ready for it?

adjective trans•par•ent \tran(t)s-ˈper-ənt\
: able to be seen through
: easy to notice or understand
: honest and open : not secretive

This definition makes my heart skip a beat.

I want to be transparent.  I want to be completely honest and open…but this scares me.

How honest can you be as a Lady in Leadership?

And by ‘honest’ I don’t mean that I am speaking ‘untruths’, but simply not being completely …well, transparent.

Transparency, without a doubt, requires discernment.

I know that in order for me to transparently share all of my Glorious Mess on this blog, God will, without a doubt, receive all the Glory as I live out JOY in my Journey!  For there is no mess big enough that God cannot defeat!  And I know that every single season of my life is a season to EMBRACE…and learn from…and grow from…and then teach from…and that is how we got here… Confessions of a Blessed Pastor’s Wife.

My husband and I have been in church leadership for most of our married life.  This blog is not simply for pastor’s wives but for any lady in leadership.  This can mean a pastor’s wife, a pastor, a youth leader, a Sunday School teacher, the church cleaning lady, or new Christians…there is no such thing as too much encouragement or too much JOY!

So as I was doing some research on transparency in the church, I ran across a quote from Ruth Graham:

“My vision is to collaboratively come alongside the Church to help it become a safe place for people (Christians and non Christians) to come just as they are, find a community in which to repent of sin without condemnation and be lead to the next step in their faith journey—basically, a place of outrageous grace and transparency. I believe as people see a transparent community of grace, being real about who we really are, others will see and be drawn into it—the next phase of evangelism.”

Now, don’t get me wrong…I’m not one of those preachers that is “ALL about that Grace”  but I DO thank God for GRACE…

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”Hebrews 4:16

…however, I do not think we should walk all over it either.  Sin is sin…and “we have ALL sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”Romans 3:23 … and others need to be reminded of this.  The world believes they can never walk a Christian lifestyle because they can never be ‘perfect’.  They need to see that we have all sinned…but through the grace of God we have been SET FREE!

I absolutely believe that when someone gives their heart and life to God, change takes place!

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”2 Corinthians 5:17

Sometimes change happens quickly and sometimes it takes baby steps.  This is OK.  As long as the steps are going forward and not backward.

But what about all these other things we struggle with as more mature Christians?  The struggle is real y’all…

This world is going to hurt you, this world is going to disappoint you, this world is going to let you down.  You will struggle with your sanity at times, you will struggle with doubt and insecurity at times, you will struggle with hurt feelings and anger at times.  When you stump your toe, it is going to hurt…just like when the world stumps their toe … it hurts!

Being a Christian doesn’t make us some sort of Super Hero or anything…..but we serve the Super Hero of Super Heroes and no matter what life throws our direction, He is right there to help us back up.  In all our ups and down, the highs and the lows, throughout the good, the bad, and the ugly!

So, as I begin my journey of transparency, I leave you with this…

It is by yielding ourselves to Christ and saying ‘no’ to the world that we grow into women of God.  We are women who revere the Lord, adore our husbands, and cherish our children.  We are women of faith who believe in submitting to our husbands and being honored by God rather than disrespecting them and flattering the world.  We may stumble but you can’t keep us down.  We may grow weary but will be lifted up.  We simply cannot be women of this world, for we are undeniably women of God.

From Rescue to Restoration

Jesus Christ is more about the Restoration than the Rescue!

Let’s ponder over parts of Jeremiah 33 for just a moment.

The Promise of Restoration

‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’

First of all, we serve a very personable God!

“{Insert your name here}, call me and I will answer you…I’ve got some really great things to tell you…I’m just waiting for you to initiate the call!”

‘For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says about the houses in this city and the royal palaces of Judah that have been torn down to be used against the siege ramps and the sword in the fight with the Babylonians: ‘They will be filled with the dead bodies of the people I will slay in my anger and wrath. I will hide my face from this city because of all its wickedness’

Destruction is evident…hard times are a given…but when we serve the King of ALL Kings, RESTORATION is the victor!

But we must first weather the storm before we can experience the rainbow.

‘Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security. I will bring Judah and Israel back from captivity and will rebuild them as they were before. I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against me. Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.’

Oh yes, we serve a God who rescues…praise the Lord for that! However, if we never step into His restoration, we are going to head right back into Rescue Mode without experiencing the fullness of the blessings of God in our lives!

“Give thanks to the LORD Almighty, for the LORD is good; His love endures forever…For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were before,’ says the LORD.”

The days are coming,’ declares the LORD, ‘when I will fulfill the good promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah…For I will restore their fortunes and have compassion on them.

Someone reading this needs rescued…Let Christ be your Hero, and then let Him be your Healer and Restorer!

God IS…and that is ALL that matters.

Confession Time

Life is busy.  I miss my husband.  I miss my kiddos.  I need some family time.  I need some Jesus time.

I work full time, I’m a full time Momma, a full time wife, and we hold church in our garage 3 times a week. At this present time we are trying to get our new church building up and active, we have graduations, birthdays, revivals, and chicken auctions to attend.

I know that at times I create this illusion that I have it all together.

I’m the pastor’s wife after all. 😉

But did you catch a very important word in there?

“Woe to the obstinate children,”
    declares the Lord,
“to those who carry out plans that are not mine,
forming an alliance, but not by my Spirit,
    heaping sin upon sin;
who go down to Egypt
    without consulting me;
who look for help to Pharaoh’s protection,
    to Egypt’s shade for refuge.
But Pharaoh’s protection will be to your shame,
Egypt’s shade will bring you disgrace…
…They say to the seers,
    “See no more visions!”
and to the prophets,
“Give us no more visions of what is right!
Tell us pleasant things,
    prophesy illusions.

Isaiah 30:1-3,10 (emphasis mine)

Illusions are not a good thing.  Illusions are not from God.

God is TRUTH.  God is CONSTANT.

God IS.

And the truth is right now that I need to get more intentional with my family time and especially my Jesus time!

IMG_20150521_194802 IMG_20150521_194740

Scripture says (and this is Jesus speaking) in Matthew 11:28-29

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

So this weekend, I am going to do just that.  I am going to say “No” to things that simply pass away, and “Yes” to things that are everlasting.

The life I sow into my children and the love I pour into my relationship with my husband is forever…and my relationship with Jesus Christ is ETERNAL.

I think I will.

I used to be Super Mom…but now I’m not.

It’s true. I used to be Super Mom.

I used to be the mom making the amazing gifts for every single student in my kids class.  I used to be the mom who sent the best snacks and drinks…and I NEVER forgot.  I used to be the mom who gave the best Christmas and end of the year gifts. Y’all, I even used to be the mom to make goodies for the teacher’s lounge.

But now Im not.

Somewhere along the way, Super Mom was replaced with ‘last minute, throw it together,  doing good to remember they even have snacks’ mom.

Don’t get me wrong, I feel I am a very attentive parent when it comes to my child’s school work and activities (and especially their Spiritual walk) but all those extras?  Yeah well, this year I’ve slacked a little in this area.

Teachers, will you please forgive me?  We highly respect you and appreciate you so much!

We have been EXTREMELY blessed this year with such amazing faculty. They don’t just teach my children but they love my children…and they inspire my children.

They deserve to be pampered.  They deserve treats. They deserve something special.

They don’t deserve the message that says “Can I have your mailing address please?”.  In case you are a Super Mom and don’t know what that message means, it means ‘I’m just now ordering your gift so it will not be in by tomorrow.’ (Which happens to be the last day of school by the way)

To the teachers, again…I’m sorry. I will truly try and do better next year.

To all the Super Moms out there…Can you please go above and beyond for our teachers this year to make up for people like me who are in an extremely busy season of life?

To the rest of the moms out there, try and take a few minutes to write out a “Thank You” note to the teachers and if you can swing it, grab them a gift certificate to pamper themselves this Summer. And remember,  you are not alone… more than likely your teacher totally gets it and forgives you. Why? Because if you have teachers are anywhere near as good as ours, they truly teach because they love it. All the extras don’t make or break them.  They are just that, extras.

Next year…I will be Super Mom again.

Not really, I probably won’t but I am going to try and be more intentional and show my appreciation towards those who serve my family…:-)

Update: Confession #2

As I slid into the parking lot minutes before the awards ceremony, I stuffed $20 in an envelope.

Seriously,  who does that!?!

Mrs. Springer and Mrs. Thralls, I love you…and I’m sorry. :-) :-) :-)
