I love weekends because that means more family time, more farm time, and more time for rejuvenation, junkin’ and Jesus!
And this is exactly what my weekend will hold. My husband and I (and our kiddos) love to go ‘junkin’. Throughout our weekends we have met some of the most amazing individuals! Many, many times do we have the opportunity to minister and pray with others.
We’ve nicknamed ourselves The Joyful Junkers! Joyfully showing Jesus everywhere we go… (Lord knows He has to help me with this one throughout the last few weeks with my AC being out in my vehicle with 100 degree temps!)
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. – Colossians 3:17
So my challenge to you this weekend is this:
WHATEVER YOU DO…give God the glory and honor and SHOW JESUS everywhere you go!
That was the first thing out of my husband’s mouth when I answered his phone call. Allison had stepped on an old rusty nail.
She is up to date on all her shots though so she didn’t have to get another one. It’s a good thing too because I think the thought of that was causing her more trauma than the nail itself!
This got me to thinking though about our spiritual walks…
Are you up to date on Jesus?
What happens when you step on those old rusty nails, spiritually? The enemy likes to throw obstacles in our path, be it people or things.
How do we handle them? Are we able to withstand the darts of the enemy or do we allow them to pierce us and then fester?
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” – Ephesians 6
The enemy knows where our weaknesses lie. When we are not protected, he will try to come in any way he can. I cannot stress to you how important it is to put on the FULL armor of God.
We can’t just pick and choose what part to put on.
So, my friends, are you up to date on your Jesus shot?
OK, so maybe I don’t really know the popular song ‘Shake it off’ these days even if the chorus is really catchy and makes me want to dance 💃 … But one thing I do know?
God’s Word is Truth and it can and should be applied to our lives each and every day.
Let’s read in Matthew chapter 10 where Jesus sends out His twelve disciples to continue their work for Him, their work to further His kingdom… He gives them some very wise advice.
“Shake off the dust of your feet.” (verse 14)
What if they don’t accept me? 🎶SHAKE IT OFF!🎶
What if they talk about me? 🎶SHAKE IT OFF!🎶
What if they don’t like me? 🎶SHAKE IT OFF!🎶
What if they mock me? 🎶 SHAKE IT OFF!🎶
What if they don’t like the way I dress? 🎶SHAKE IT OFF!🎶
What if they simply don’t want to hear what I have to say? 🎶SHAKE IT OFF🎶
Ladies, people are going to talk about you, people are going to ridicule you, people are not always going to agree with everything you say. But if God has asked you to say something or do something to further His kingdom, just do it!
Don’t let the fear of people keep you from obeying the voice of God.
Over the last 14 years we’ve experienced some messy days. Some days, messier and bigger than others.
We’ve went through the birth of two children, one of them being born with heart complications therefore leading to heart surgery, we’ve experienced college days, careers, leadership positions and even church hurt. I can gladly say that through the grace of God, these messy days have brought us closer together.
So why is it that toothaches, leg cramps, yelping puppies and sleepless nights can bring out the worst in us?
Why is it that we can look back on these ‘big’ trials and see the growth that has taken place during these days but then we get up one fine Thursday morning, tired and cranky (see leg cramps, puppies, and sleepless nights) and feel like we’ve taken 10 steps back?
I’ll tell you why… scripture tells us in Song of Solomon 2:15, “Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines…”
Ladies, these simple, mundane days…these are the days that mold us into that powerful woman of God.
The days that help us endure the ‘big’ days.
We have been given the gift to choose.
We can choose to focus on how cranky hubby was this morning and how ugly our reaction might have been…OR…we can choose to use these leg cramps and sleepless nights as growth opportunities.
So, today, no matter how your morning went or how your week has gone, or even your entire 2015, CHOOSE joy, CHOOSE peace, CHOOSE kind words, CHOOSE forgiveness.
No, we can’t do this on our own but get in God’s word, pray, seek Him.
Let Him lead you in these moments of growth because it’s the pesky little foxes that can make or break us.
Sometimes I feel that I should do more…I should have more of the right words…I should be able to fix things and make others feel better.
After all, I am the pastor’s wife, right?
One night this week I was blessed with the opportunity to minister to several different lades who were all having a really rough week. I use the word ‘minister’ very lightly because the whole time in my mind I was thinking, “you don’t even have the words to say…you may be quoting a few scriptures to them right now but they don’t want to hear that right now, they KNOW these things…they are simply having a rough week/season/life! As their leadership, how are you going to fix this?”
And then the Lord spoke these words into my spirit…
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” – Matthew 11:28-29
Friends, if we want to be like Jesus, if we want to walk and talk like Jesus, if we want to show Jesus, sometimes we must simply provide a shelter from the storms. This is how we be His hands and His feet…by wrapping our arms around our sisters in Christ and letting them cry. No, I can’t fix the situation.
I may not even have the correct “pastor’s wife” words…but I do know a God who heals delivers, restores, strengthens, and sets free! And at times, He chooses me to wrap my arms around a loved one and remind them of these truths.
When you sometimes feel like you aren’t doing enough, simply listen and let them cry…
“Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground,9 male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah.” – Genesis 7:8-9
And like I mentioned above, I was/am absolutely ‘preachin’ to myself’ here! But as I was pondering on this truth, God spoke something deeper to me…a warning, if you will. Noah did not have to go searching for his promise…God walked it right up to his front door! (Thank you Lord!) But once that took place something else happened…
Let’s go a little further down to verse 12:
“And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.”
The animals walked in…but then the doors were shut again…for awhile…
It would still be some time before that Promise came full circle. As a matter of fact, it wasn’t for another 2 chapters!
I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.” And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come:I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.” So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.” – Genesis 9:11-17
Friends, your promise is coming!…but do not get discouraged if you see a portion of your promise and then have to wait again…
“The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.” – Lamentations 3:25
