I love weekends because that means more family time, more farm time, and more time for rejuvenation, junkin’ and Jesus!
And this is exactly what my weekend will hold. My husband and I (and our kiddos) love to go ‘junkin’. Throughout our weekends we have met some of the most amazing individuals! Many, many times do we have the opportunity to minister and pray with others.
We’ve nicknamed ourselves The Joyful Junkers! Joyfully showing Jesus everywhere we go… (Lord knows He has to help me with this one throughout the last few weeks with my AC being out in my vehicle with 100 degree temps!)
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. – Colossians 3:17
So my challenge to you this weekend is this:
WHATEVER YOU DO…give God the glory and honor and SHOW JESUS everywhere you go!
I love taking something old and useless and making it beautiful and useful again!
Here is one of my recent projects…I wish I had a picture of my “before” so that you could see the difference but just imagine this piece where the seller almost couldn’t give it away…but I seen the potential!
This chair is amazing! I call it a Low Rider Comfort chair. I simply painted the old wood turquoise (including the strip of material on the front of the seat) and then recovered the cushion with an old hand stitched quilt top.
Tonight I have another project (or 2 or 3 or…well, if you know me there is no telling) in mind…so stay tuned!
Now, you know I can’t just write a post about bringing life to old, dead things without at least a few words about the powerful LIFE given to us by Jesus Christ!
So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! – 2 Corinthians 5:16-17
Friend, just like this old chair just thrown on another porch …we serve a God of restoration, a God of healing, and a God that is living!
Christ sees life in you…Christ sees potential in you…Christ sees His masterpiece!
That was the first thing out of my husband’s mouth when I answered his phone call. Allison had stepped on an old rusty nail.
She is up to date on all her shots though so she didn’t have to get another one. It’s a good thing too because I think the thought of that was causing her more trauma than the nail itself!
This got me to thinking though about our spiritual walks…
Are you up to date on Jesus?
What happens when you step on those old rusty nails, spiritually? The enemy likes to throw obstacles in our path, be it people or things.
How do we handle them? Are we able to withstand the darts of the enemy or do we allow them to pierce us and then fester?
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” – Ephesians 6
The enemy knows where our weaknesses lie. When we are not protected, he will try to come in any way he can. I cannot stress to you how important it is to put on the FULL armor of God.
We can’t just pick and choose what part to put on.
So, my friends, are you up to date on your Jesus shot?
I’ll tell you how because God has really been dealing with me on this issue. :/
To be instant means to be prepared…be prepared to spread the gospel…be prepared to tell others about Jesus…be prepared to show Jesus…
“Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.” – 2 Timothy 4:2
BUT how do we prepare ourselves?
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.“ – Hebrews 4:12
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” – 2 Timothy 3:16-17
We prepare our hearts, minds, and bodies by reading the word of God.
We become instant when we read the word of God…
I can attest to this!
When I’m reading the Word like I should, God is constantly revealing His truths unto me…
When I am digging into scripture, He amazes me with His presence…
OK, so maybe I don’t really know the popular song ‘Shake it off’ these days even if the chorus is really catchy and makes me want to dance 💃 … But one thing I do know?
God’s Word is Truth and it can and should be applied to our lives each and every day.
Let’s read in Matthew chapter 10 where Jesus sends out His twelve disciples to continue their work for Him, their work to further His kingdom… He gives them some very wise advice.
“Shake off the dust of your feet.” (verse 14)
What if they don’t accept me? 🎶SHAKE IT OFF!🎶
What if they talk about me? 🎶SHAKE IT OFF!🎶
What if they don’t like me? 🎶SHAKE IT OFF!🎶
What if they mock me? 🎶 SHAKE IT OFF!🎶
What if they don’t like the way I dress? 🎶SHAKE IT OFF!🎶
What if they simply don’t want to hear what I have to say? 🎶SHAKE IT OFF🎶
Ladies, people are going to talk about you, people are going to ridicule you, people are not always going to agree with everything you say. But if God has asked you to say something or do something to further His kingdom, just do it!
Don’t let the fear of people keep you from obeying the voice of God.
Over the last 14 years we’ve experienced some messy days. Some days, messier and bigger than others.
We’ve went through the birth of two children, one of them being born with heart complications therefore leading to heart surgery, we’ve experienced college days, careers, leadership positions and even church hurt. I can gladly say that through the grace of God, these messy days have brought us closer together.
So why is it that toothaches, leg cramps, yelping puppies and sleepless nights can bring out the worst in us?
Why is it that we can look back on these ‘big’ trials and see the growth that has taken place during these days but then we get up one fine Thursday morning, tired and cranky (see leg cramps, puppies, and sleepless nights) and feel like we’ve taken 10 steps back?
I’ll tell you why… scripture tells us in Song of Solomon 2:15, “Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines…”
Ladies, these simple, mundane days…these are the days that mold us into that powerful woman of God.
The days that help us endure the ‘big’ days.
We have been given the gift to choose.
We can choose to focus on how cranky hubby was this morning and how ugly our reaction might have been…OR…we can choose to use these leg cramps and sleepless nights as growth opportunities.
So, today, no matter how your morning went or how your week has gone, or even your entire 2015, CHOOSE joy, CHOOSE peace, CHOOSE kind words, CHOOSE forgiveness.
No, we can’t do this on our own but get in God’s word, pray, seek Him.
Let Him lead you in these moments of growth because it’s the pesky little foxes that can make or break us.
Jesus replied, “and why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?” – Matthew 15:3
I want to encourage you to search out God’s Word for yourself.
Yes, I’m sure a lot of us have had some good, solid teaching throughout our lives.
However, have you sought Him for yourself?
Have you ever wondered why do we do ‘this’ or why we do ‘that’?
I’m sure most of the “traditions” you follow are biblical but are they all?
I’ve learned so much over the years from very wise men and women but the biggest jump in my spiritual walk came when I began digging in and seeking God on my own.
I thank God for my parents and the spiritual leaders God placed in front of me but more than that…I thank God that He is personal with me! He speaks to me. He listens to me. And every single day He teaches me something new.
I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am THE LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name. –
